Washer geometry, hardness, spring condition or bendability must be specified separately from alloy name. Bolt and nut strength classes are not washer grades.
Technical Selection & Standard Reference
DIN 436:2024-10 concerns square washers, especially for wood constructions. Other plate or custom square washers need their own drawing; do not infer structural approval from the shape.
Specify seating material, required bearing area and joint load requirements. Square outline alone does not determine capacity.
A family reference is not a certificate for a supplied item. Legacy commercial references require agreement on the actual drawing and contractual specification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a square washer the same as a taper washer?
No. A flat square washer has no specified wedge angle. A taper washer is selected to suit a sloping seating face.
