Reference: DIN 557

Quick Specifications — Square Nut
| Product | Square Nut |
|---|---|
| Standard / drawing reference | DIN 557 |
| Thread / size | Specify nominal diameter, metric pitch or inch TPI, thread series, tolerance and handedness. Metric and inch products need their respective specified standards or drawings. |
| Material / strength | Specify material grade separately from nut strength class, proof-load or product-specific test requirements. See the enquiry table below. |
| Critical dimensions / selection | Across flats, nut height, corner clearance, housing fit and thread pitch. |
| Finish | Specify plain, passivated or coated finish as applicable to the selected material and nut design. Confirm coating/thread-fit compatibility. |
| Quantity / documentation | State quantity, delivery location, drawing revision and required inspection or material/test documentation. |
No numeric size range, load rating, stock availability or compliance is implied by this reference page. Requirements are reviewed before quotation.
Stainless steel & special-alloy grade enquiries
State the exact material grade in your RFQ. The following are enquiry options, not a stock list or certification claim. Suitability, manufacturing route and availability require confirmation for this nut design.
| Material requested | Technical information to confirm |
|---|---|
| SS 304 / 304L | Exact material specification; stainless nut grade and strength class where applicable. |
| SS 316 / 316L | Corrosion environment, specified material and required mechanical properties. |
| SS 310 / 310S | Exact grade, service temperature and mechanical requirements; no automatic high-temperature approval. |
| SS 904L | Stainless steel grade request; corrosion environment and applicable product/test specification. |
| HASTELLOY family | Exact alloy designation, material specification and certificate requirements. |
| Alloy 20 | Exact specification, service environment and product-form requirements. |
| MONEL family | Exact alloy designation and required mechanical/product specification. |
| INCONEL family | Exact alloy designation, service temperature and product/test specification. |
ISO 3506-2 stainless nut designations and property classes are separate from commercial SS grade names. Do not infer nut proof load from “SS 304” or “SS 316”, or copy bolt classes such as 8.8/10.9 onto a nut specification. Carbon/alloy steel requests need their own specified nut grade and mechanical requirements.

Technical Selection & Standard Reference
DIN 557 covers square nuts. Confirm the specified edition and drawing; legacy tables may differ from current requirements. A square nut is not automatically a T-nut or cage nut.
Check before ordering: Across flats, nut height, corner clearance, housing fit and thread pitch.
References describe the product family, not certification of a supplied item. Specify the current or contractually required edition; confirm any legacy DIN reference against the actual drawing.
Application Areas
Designed square recesses, channels, fabricated fixtures and maintenance assemblies.
For oil & gas, pharma, dairy or construction projects, state the actual load, corrosion, hygiene, temperature and approval requirements. Sector names alone do not establish suitability.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a square nut the same as a T-nut?
No. A square nut has a four-sided body. T-nuts and cage nuts have different retention geometries and are not included in this 13-type range.
How do I request a quotation for square nut?
Send the nut type, thread diameter and pitch, quantity, material grade, strength or test requirements, standard edition or drawing, finish, application and delivery location. Technical suitability and availability are confirmed with the quotation.
